Where price stands now
Gold has reached and is testing a foothold below this level. The last closed price is , so formally we're already below it, but holding there and a first touch from above are two different things.
The range of recent weeks stretches from to . That means price is currently sitting right at the lower edge of this move, just a few dollars from the local low. No surprise the slowdown is happening right here.
Why 3886 and 3942 are key
To me this isn't just two lines - it's a zone that marks the border between the medium-term and long-term scenario. While price was moving inside the wide range, the question of direction stayed open. Now it has run into the base of that range.
This is usually where the real fight between big players plays out. One side is pulling price lower and trying to confirm the breakdown, while the other is working to push it back above and on toward . The outcome here shapes the picture for more than a day or two.
That's why I watch the - zone as a whole, not a single number. A false breakdown with a quick return inside the range and a genuine hold below the level can look identical on the chart, but their consequences are the opposite.
What counts as a confirmed hold for me
Price trading below the level isn't a breakdown on its own. I need to see that after the move below , attempts to climb back inside fail to get anywhere, and sellers keep defending the pullbacks. Until that happens, I read any drop lower as a test of the border, not a new direction.
The flip side works the same way. If buyers push price above and hold it there, the next point of interest is . As long as the market keeps bouncing between these marks, neither side has an edge.
How I trade in a zone of uncertainty
While the situation stays unclear, I'm not taking setups from higher timeframes. In a zone like this, a signal from the daily or hourly chart can easily get caught inside someone else's fight, and the stop gets taken out purely by the swing of the move.
I only work with what forms on M1-M5. There you can see the reaction to the level in real time, the stop is tighter, and it becomes clear faster whether you were right or wrong. It's not a universal recipe - it's a way to get through a stretch where the market hasn't picked a side yet.
Once one side wins out and the level plays out, I'll go back to higher timeframe signals. Right now price is trading at the lower boundary of a multi-week range, and that's exactly the spot where the risk of trading against the move is at its highest.
In short
- Price has reached and is testing a hold below it, last close
- The - zone decides the medium and long-term direction, and neither side has an edge inside it
- I only count a hold below once returns above the level stop reaching their target
- A return above shifts focus toward
- Until the picture clears up, I only work with M1-M5 setups - higher timeframe signals carry elevated risk here
